Matola Gas Company - Maputo, Mozambique

Matola Gas Company, SA (MGC) is a Mozambican business that specializes in the transportation, distribution, and sale of natural gas that is sourced from Mozambique. Established in 2004, MGC is jointly owned by the Mozambican government (through the National Hydrocarbon Company, or ENH) and a South African company called Gigajoule International. The company operates a transmission and distribution pipeline of natural gas that is around 100 km in length, and has a capacity of 8 million gigajoules of natural gas per year. This pipeline starts in Ressano Garcia and is connected to the main pipeline from the Pande and Temane exploration fields that leads to South Africa. The compression station is situated 75 km away at the Malhampsene area, where the pressure is reduced to 10 bar.

present, natural gas is being supplied to the Mozal aluminum plant, the Mozambique Cement factory, and eighteen other companies situated in Machava and Matola (Maputo province). These companies have chosen to use local energy sources that are cleaner and more efficient in their production processes, instead of other imported fuels. Additionally, many investors have also begun to invest in projects that use natural gas due to the economic and environmental benefits of this fuel.
